A Playful & Heartfelt Engagement at Garey House | Abby + Josh

We had the absolute joy of meeting Abby and Josh at their wedding venue for their engagement session, and from the moment we arrived, we knew it was going to be a beautiful afternoon.

If you’ve never visited Garey House, picture this: a slice of Tuscany nestled right here in Texas — framed by lush greenery, a peaceful little lake, grand columns, and warm Spanish tiles that tell stories of old-world romance. The setting was perfect... but what truly made this shoot unforgettable was the couple in front of the camera. The weather was supposed to be a torrent of showers but God showed up and not a single drop fell from the sky during the almost 2 hour photoshoot.

Abby and Josh are simple souls — not in personality, but in the way they value authenticity over performance. They mentioned early on that a super-stylized editorial look just wasn’t their vibe, so we embraced a style that felt more like them: prompts that led to real laughter, natural movement, and tender moments. Somehow Misty found a way to create a few choice artistic pieces in the midst of all this candid fun and Abby was blown away that they could even take such a photo. Their sincere reactions when they saw it were the heart and soul of why Misty and Jay do what they do.

At first, both were understandably nervous. They'd never had professional photos taken before, and Abby admitted afterward that she was anxious about not knowing how to pose — worried she’d look stiff or unsure. But within minutes of working with Misty (who has a secret superpower of turning nerves into giggles), those worries melted away. The adorable armadillos that popped in and out during the session certainly helped take the focus off any lingering nerves too.

By the time we wrapped, it felt less like a photoshoot and more like documenting two best friends who are crazy about each other. There were jokes, spontaneous kisses, and that kind of unfiltered joy you can’t script.

Abby and Josh’s quirky, fun-loving personalities lit up every frame. Their genuine connection was a reminder that love doesn’t need to be posed or perfected — it just needs to be real. And we think these photos show exactly that.

We cannot wait to celebrate their wedding day soon. But for now, enjoy a little peek into this special session that marked the beginning of their next adventure together 💛
